49. It’s (not) about the place

 

 

This photograph is close to being my favourite image (of my own photographs), in that it (hopefully) engages beyond the mere swipe-through most images (at least most of mine) get online these days. Landscape photography is for me primarily about light and shadow, and these echo the internal landscape of thought in darkness.

The image is ambiguous in that it invites you to both look and not look.

So, it is about the place, and it is not about the place.

It is about those silent moments (what I refer to as a dwam state) before the awareness of being there takes place. Once the awareness arrives, the silence is gone.
